When John O. Riley first retired to the ranch he discovered a javelina nest in a culvert under the state road near the burial plot. That Thanksgiving (possibly 1972, when Bill and Mike Clark were there), the family drove 'Old Yeller' (a '70-something Chevrolet pickup) to the culvert; Tina sat in the truck bed; Dad used a 20-foot PVC pipe to poke javelinas out from the eastern end; Bill and Mike were on the western end when four javelinas charged; one of the twins used Grandpa's 8 gauge shotgun and the other a 12 gauge, they shot one javelina about 6 times before it dropped after running 30-50 yards; Grandpa and some of the guys took it to Lupe the hired man to cook.
