John Joseph Riley was married to Margaret Ellen McNamara on 15 January 1876 in San Antonio, Texas.
John and Margaret were Catholics and helped to establish the St. Anthony Catholic Church in Runge about 1901.
John died on 1 November 1917 on his ranch and is buried in the Catholic Cemetery in Runge, Texas; his wife died in 1942 and is buried by his side.
